Katrice Buckley
“Feminine Identity”
Katrice is an acrylic and oil painter with an artistic focus in portraits of Black women. Inspired by the “feminine identity.” Katrice finds herself on a journey to rediscover empowerment and self-identity amongst Black women and their beauty.
Her primary goal is for women to feel a sense of empowerment when looking at her pieces and to realize we all share an unmatched beauty. She also desires to bring her male viewers to a place of renewed appreciation and respect for African-American women.
Katrice’s inspiration derives from her own self-acceptance as an African-American woman. She notes that she has endured many changes in her life- one that have helped her evolve into the woman you see today. She uses herself as a subject in most of her paintings, so you will always see a small part of her in each painting. She hopes that her work will prompt beauty and self-love among black women everywhere.
From a young age, art has always been a calling that has never left. She finds comfort in being able to sit down for hours, uninterrupted, to pour herself on to the canvas. She is a graduate from Bradley University, with a degree in Studio Art, focus Drawing and Painting. She resides in the south suburbs of Chicago, IL; where she offers paint classes for all ages and has been featured in many exhibits, competitions, and live art shows.
